The FilComBo: Filipino Community of Bougainville

When I returned on August 24 , the Filipino Community of Bougainville (FilComBo) had already set the stage for a series of spirited gatherings. Each occasion became a testament to our culture, faith, and camaraderie.

🎶 August 30 – Faith and Tradition

We sponsored the 5th Sunday of August Mass , leading the church choir, offering a graceful offertory dance, and capping the celebration with a lively post‑Mass community dance. Clad in elegant Filipino barong , we brought a touch of home to Bougainville's sacred space.

🇧🇻 September 1 – Patriotic Day of Bougainville

At the Fr. Beggs Conference Center , we joined the Patriotic Day festivities with a celebration of our own -- feast of Filipino dishes and the unmistakable joy of karaoke. Food and music became our bridge of camaraderie with the wider Bougainville community.

🎂 September 5 – Celebrations of Life and Family

We honored Ronald Garces' birthday and anticipated Father's Day with another weekend of feasting and singing. Once again, karaoke echoed as the soundtrack of our togetherness.

🌊 September 6 – Sohano Island Tour

After attending Sunday Mass at St. Joseph the Worker sub-parish , we embarked on a community tour of Sohano Island . It was a day of faith, fellowship, and discovery, strengthening bonds beyond the church walls.

🇵🇬 September 15 – PNG Independence Day

We proudly joined the celebration of Papua New Guinea's 51st Independence Day , donning PNG's festive shirts and sharing a Filipino‑style fiesta. It was a beautiful blend of cultures, honoring our host nation while showcasing our heritage.

✨ The FilComBo spirit shines through every gathering — whether in worship, celebration, or community outreach. These moments remind us that even far from the Philippines, our identity thrives in faith, food, music, and friendship.
